...To nursing pillow or to not nursing pillow??...

Hey, moms!

What are y'alls opinions on specialty nursing pillows? With my first I used a fancy Boppy but with my second I just used normal pillows. I'm not sure there was much of a difference for me. There are now even more fancy pillows out there I've seen but are they just overrated and overpriced??? What do you guys think??

  • Hey Angela!

I'm with you on this one! Personally, with my first child I thought I needed all the newest gadgets on the market, including the Boppy breastfeeding pillow. I did use it and liked it! But with my second child, I had realized all the STUFF I had acquired that wasn't quite necessary for a newborn or breastfeeding, and just used ordinary pillows!

Nursing pillows aren't a need, but can certainly be handy! A good item to add to your baby registry ;)

  • My first babies were twins, and the Boppy pillow saved my life.
I got pregnant two more times after that, and even though I had gotten rid of my first Boppy pillow, I always bought one at Once Upon A Child in Sioux Falls for each new baby.  I liked how firm they were and how supportive they made breastfeeding positions feel.  I tried pillows once, but they were so lumpy, and I felt like I had to lean forward more to breastfeed.  It may not have helped that the pillows were feather down?

  • I used a nursing pillow after a friend recommended I try one and it completely changed the game for me. I found it made nursing her easier and helped me to be able to be more relaxed and comfortable, especially since I was working on my Bachelors degree again when my daughter was only 1 month old. It just helped me all around. I received the boppy pillow from a friend because she no longer needed it. I didn’t realize it was something I needed until after I started using it. But I was also multi tasking and if it wasn’t for working on my Bachelors again I probably wouldn’t have actually needed it.
