I am breastfeeding but how will I know if my baby is ready for more milk?
Alicia Fonder
We recently received the following question from a breastfeeding mom and we thought it was too good not to share!
"I have started producing about 4 ounces of milk. When do I know if my baby is ready to move up to 4 ounces? I weighed him yesterday and he weighs 8 lbs. 4 oz. He was 6 lbs. 3 oz. at birth and will be one month old this Friday."
Have you ever had this same question?

Did you know that unlike formula which needs to continually be increased with baby's weight increase, breastmilk changes in calories and nutrients to meet your baby's needs at any age.... rather than increasing the amount. The best way to make sure your baby is getting what he needs is to practice paced bottle feeding.

I wondered this with my first baby. I got concerned also as she got older and didn't even like foods very much. I just kept on feeding her and trusted my body and we got through! But it was nerve wracking... and I had a hard time explaining this to my family members with my second child who took bottles every now and then. The body is amazing!!
