Meet Amber - Peer Counselor

Hello!

My name is Amber, and I joined the peer counselor program to help support other breastfeeding mothers and to share my love of breastfeeding! As of April 27, 2023 I am at 2 years of breastfeeding and I hope to continue until my daughter turns 3. My knowledge is from a handful of sources and I've learned so much by attending breastfeeding groups with other mothers and lactation consultants. I have been a peer counselor since June of 2022 and I love every moment of it!

I am particularly proud of my accomplishment of serving 10 years in the United States Army as a Military Police Soldier. I exited the service in 2016 as a Staff Sergeant and worked in the Pentagon for six months as an Executive Assistant. I'm currently two semesters from finishing a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, so while I don't count it as an accomplishment, I'm very close to obtaining my goal.

I am very passionate about reading and spending time outside with my daughter. I was big into sports when I was in High School, as well as when I was in the Military. Volleyball is one of my all-time favorite sports to play. I enjoy hiking, jogging, and sightseeing. If it can get me outside, I love it. I also LOVE breastfeeding. I will breastfeed my daughter wherever I can if she wants to nurse.

I'm all about supporting a woman's right to breastfeed in public. I set an example by nursing in the park, grocery store, WIC office, daycare, and even at my sister's wedding.

I look forward to helping you on your breastfeeding journey!
