Meet Sawyer- Peer Counselor

Hi! I am Sawyer!

I am a momma to 4 beautiful, God given children. I have 7- and 5-year- old boys and a 4-year-old and 7-month-old girl.

I have breastfed each of them for up to a year or longer and enjoy watching them grow. I have been a peer counselor for 6 years now, with the hope of many to come. These past 6 years have taught me so much about pregnancy, breastfeeding, and many things postpartum.

The reason I got started in the BFPC program was because when I started breastfeeding for the first
time, I fell in love! I fell in love with the connection, the joy, the journey, and I got to watch the miracle
of my body providing for my baby!

I had a couple struggle during my first baby, that if I had had someone to support or guide me more, I
may have made different decisions. Overall, I followed my gut and looking back, I am glad I did! But
because of these struggles and my passion for breastfeeding, this position has allowed me to help others, which is very rewarding. Some of my personal breastfeeding struggles/hurdles have included mastitis, yeast mastitis, major nipple pain/trauma due to tongue and lip tie with 2 babies, silent reflux, PP depression, miscarriage, and I’m sure many more. But each one of these struggles has allowed me to connect and help other moms in a personal way. I have used my personal experiences to show moms that breastfeeding isn’t always easy and has its struggles but is SO rewarding in the end!

Overall, I love my position as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and a mom and would trade either for anything!
